Manipal throngs KMC Greens for ‘Run for a Cause-Marathon’ conducted by TAPMI-Atharva

TAPMI-Atharva organised a ‘Run For A Cause Marathon’ on 26th January 2014 starting at KMC Greens as a prelude to Atharva 2014. This year, TAPMI-Atharva partnered with Men Against Rape and Discrimination (MARD) to host the city-wide marathon. MARD,an initiative by the renowned movie celebrity and social activist Farhan Akhtar, fights for gender equality and respect towards women. It does so by encouraging the men of the nation to become the agents and catalysts of change in the mindsets of the people. It dreams of a sustained society in which every man is a proud protector of the rights of a woman.

The ‘Run ForA Cause Marathon’ was inaugurated by the honourable Assistant Superintendent of Police, Karkala, Mr Annamalai. The marathon was flagged off by him at 5 pm. He also extended his support for the cause by participating in the marathon along with the 416 participants who thronged the venue. Besides athletes and professional runners, hundreds of young students of Manipal participated in the 4.1km run amidst the loud cheers.


The volunteers from TAPMI were stationed at checkpoints with water and refreshments and guided the participants through the route. They motivated the participants to reach the finish line with encouraging quotes and constant cheers. There was also an ambulance on standby throughout the run to ensure the safety of the participants.

The run was completed first by Mr Gangadhara, who was pronounced as the winner of the marathon and received prizes worth Rs. 10,000. The top 5 running enthusiasts who completed the run were also rewarded with exciting prizes .TAPMI-Atharva pledged its support towards the welfare of the the society by donating Rs. 25,200 to Magic Bus which was collected by sale of marathon tickets.

 

Apart from raising funds, the marathon also brought an overwhelming experience for the populaceof Manipal as they challenged their limits to run together for a noble cause.
